Volume 3 of the Series, MAX GETS IT! Now on Amazon.com
BROOKLYN, N.Y., April 28 /PRNewswire/ --
Your paycheck doesn't come with instructions, neither do your children. Yet, money is a family issue. Before the children learn bad habits, check with expert Candi Sparks on raising money savvy kids. Parents, educators and concerned citizens alike, can learn to communicate life-saving information, in a fun, unforgettable way!
Per Ms. Sparks, "So many people are suffering financially, and they may even be financially illiterate. Perhaps this is because we don't focus on prevention, during childhood. In every home, language literacy comes first. From birth, we talk, read and sing to children. But with money, we teach them too little, too late. Then, our financially illiterate young people become adults that continue to suffer. I believe children can learn financial literacy through constant exposure and positive reinforcement, just as they do with language."
CAN I HAVE SOME MONEY? books and workshops by Candi Sparks benefit participants by (1) focusing on self-worth while developing net worth; (2) stopping the fights about money; and (3) preparing consumers for use of third-party money. Workshops are lighthearted and simplify finances using everyday items like candy, nachos and rubber ducks. Young and old respond to these emotional symbols of childhood to "re-learn" money.
According to New York City Councilmember Bill deBlasio, "'CAN I HAVE SOME MONEY?' by Candi Sparks, is a readable, entertaining little book series that is an excellent way to introduce children to the issues of budgeting, saving, credit and other grown up money matters." Ms. Sparks has authored articles including "What Teens Want" (http://ezinearticles.com/?What-Teens-Want&id=951199), and "Teaching Kids About Money - Lessons For Every Age and Stage" on ivillage.com (http://slideshow.ivillage.com/parenting/teaching_kids_about_money/lessons_for _every_age_and_stag.html) (Due to the length of the URL, please copy and paste into your browser to view.). Her mission is to empower parents and children to become financially literate, starting in the home. Ms. Sparks is happily conducting book signings, workshops, classroom enrichment, professional development and making lots of friends who all want to know, "Can I have some money?"

In applying for college, the parents become responsible for the student loans. Plus, many parents subsidize the kids through funding a bank account, shopping money and so many other hidden expenses, like any emergency medical expenses or car repairs. If the family has an emergency fund and the young adult is covered by health insurance, it can be little more than an inconvenience. But, if the family does not have there resources, or does know how to show the college kid how to budget, they are all headed for a lot of surprises. I know someone who went to an Ivy League school, but was from a very poor background, had to get a job to eat during college, and most days had to chose between eating lunch out and or walking back to the dorm after work, across town. I like the idea of getting money lessons before the kids leave for college, on the CAN I HAVE SOME MONEY? site because it really discusses how money is a family matter. CAN I HAVE SOME MONEY? is a good reference point. Financial literacy changes lives.
